![]() ![]() If all you are trying to do is to uninstall nVidia, why not simply uninstall all nVidia packages? This probably is the simplest and safest way to do what you are trying to achieve. This behavior is trigged by the no-format selection If you select to format, you'll get a clean install without regard for what was installed previously. This can be used to re-install a different release but note: going forward (possibly hirsute) the re-install of your additional packages may no longer occur (I read a message in bug report that indicated this it still occurs last Lubuntu hirsute install were I specifically tested for this feature). Any global change/setting made via edits to system directories will be lost (the effect will depend on how you made changes if you used user programs to make configuration changes those changes tend to be stored in your $HOME directory thus survive, however changes made to files in system directories will get lost. If fonts were added in your user directory they'll of course survive, but any fonts installed and placed in system directories (so all users can use them), they'll be lost unless they were installed via package tools from Ubuntu repositories those will get restored. No user directory is touched, thus as desktop programs store their configuration files in $HOME or your user directory they will survive (unless you ticked format) ![]() add back additional packages ( noted earlier if available in your 'new' release in Ubuntu repositories) ![]() erase system directories (as you mention /etc contents there will be lost as it's a system directory) note your additional packages installed (those added post-install) Assuming you are talking about Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop (or like flavors), you can re-install using "Something else", then select existing partitions, and as long as you don't format any, the install will ![]()
